Captain’s Blog – November 2015
We have enjoyed a very successful season of golf. All competitions have been fiercely fought, which culminated in a bumper turnout at the Annual Presentation Evening on Friday 13th November.
The Club has also enjoyed a successful season with the Men’s Club matches. We handsomely won the Tri Match Trophy at Ludlow at the start of the season in April and we also retained the “Lilleshifkin Tri Match Trophy” at Shifnal.
The Captains’ Charities have been very well supported and Lady Captain Sue Parker and myself are very grateful for your kind generosity. We were able to present each of our charities with £3500. Ladies Captain’s Charity, Shropshire & Staffordshire Blood Bikes, was presented with their cheque at the Prize Presentation Evening.
On the evening of Monday 16th November we had the privilege of hearing a talk by Mr Peter Cooke MD FRCS (Urol), Consultant Urologist at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. This was an illustrated talk which was most informative and it was well attended by members. I chose to ask Mr Cooke to present the cheque for £3500 to my charity, Prostate Cancer UK, which was received by their representative Mr Eddie Hulme.
Our Junior Section continues to be successful. Dani Hoof won the under 16s Junior Championship and the Junior team finished second in the Shropshire/Herefordshire Junior Texas Scramble at Ludlow, losing by .7 of a point despite giving away a considerable number of shots to the winners.
The festive season is now before us. The Christmas Competition and Party is on Sunday December 13th and then of course our there is our New Year’s Eve celebration which this year features the very popular Simon Garcia.
Finally I would like to announce a change of Vice Captain. Alan Smith has requested to be allowed to stand down for business reasons and Will Schofield has been appointed into the post and will become Captain for the 2016/17 season. I welcome Will for he will be a popular and efficient Captain of our Club.
