Ladies’ August newsletter

August 2nd – Ladies’ Am/Am – 96 ladies played from 19 different clubs, which was fantastic. The weather could have been kinder – when it rained it was like Welsh rain!

Despite the weather, there were some super scores in:

In 1st place were Fiona Bowers (Enville), Eileen Thomas (The Staffordshire), Isobel Rees (Enville) & Dorothy Campbell (Enville) with 91 points.

In 2nd place were Jane Davies, Verona Elder, Judy Loader, and Sue Kelly, all from Perton, with 90 points.

In 3rd place, on count back, were Carol Davenport, Lynne Harris, Cheryl Egerton and Di Simpson, all from Barlaston, also with 90 points.

In 4th place, again on countback, were myself, Anne Ford (Lilleshall), Margaret Tomkinson (Lilleshall) and Helen Peters (Enville) with 85 points.

Nearest the Pin on the 6th was won by Brenda Cordwell from Little Aston and Meg Jones (Lilleshall) was the only lady with a two.

Well done to all those in the prizes and thank you to Denise Morton and her team for organizing the day. Thank you to the handsome men, Bob Kenyon & Ron Murphy, who greeted us on the 1st tee and to Anne Collier and her ladies for organizing the raffle, which raised £144 for the charities.

HANDICAP CERTIFICATES – A copy will be printed at the beginning of the year following the annual review. For any further handicap changes, certificates will only be printed upon request.

KATRINA GILLUM – is now playing off 0.0.

REBECCA BUCKINGHAM – played in the English Amateur Girls Stroke Play Competition consisting of 2 rounds. Rebecca played both rounds 1 under par and is now playing off 12.

ISLA McDONALD O’ BRIEN – who is aged 9, has come in with an exceptional score and is now playing off 21.6.

Well done girls and keep up the good work!

LADIES’ PUTTER – will be run on the 22nd September, the same day as the Stableford medal. The format for both competitions will be Stableford.

NEW LOOK LADIES V SENIORS – 11TH OCTOBER – Stan would like to try a different format for this game. Rather than Ladies v Seniors he would like to try a mixed game, 2 ladies and 2 men. We would still enjoy the same sausage, egg and chips; however, the cost to enter would be £7 (the extra £1 would fund the prizes). Watch the board for the exact format of the day.

FRIENDLY MATCHES – Sadly we were beaten away at Shrewsbury – thank you to all who played – we will take revenge next year!

MIXED FRIENDLY MATCHES – we played away at Stone on the 14th August. I’ve never played Stone before and I found it a ‘quirky’ course. The weather was lovely and the hosts were very hospitable.  We halved the match, which was a good result.

SCRATCH LEAGUE – unfortunately we were beaten at home against Oswestry.  Thank you for your sterling efforts, girls.

A DAY TO REMEMBER MARGO – what a lovely day! We played the Celtic Rumble, chosen by Margo last year, in fabulous sunshine, followed by afternoon tea with chips and scones – yum yum! Rather than be a sad day, hopefully it was a day to celebrate the fun and laughter we have all enjoyed with Margo over the years.  Geoff produced a large picture of us all, taken at Margo’s day last year, which was lovely. There was a bottle of sparkling wine for the winning team. The balance of the money only from the entrance fee will go towards a nice bench on the course for Margo. The winners were Alice Drewnicki, Jenny Thomas and Sue Everatt with 68 points.  Well done girls! The money raised from the competition entry fee was £128.43p.

In addition, £81.50 was raised from donations and the money from the box on the bar.  Alan is convalescing at his son’s so I have emailed them lots of pictures taken by Alex on the day. The family was thrilled to see them and they thank you all for supporting the day.

TELEPHONE LIST – We will be updating the telephone list shortly – if anyone needs to amend any numbers please let me know.
